“Working with Jasmine and her staff at the Dog Daycare was great. They are super friendly and supportive. The location was right in the heart of a really cool suburb with tons of restaurants to sample. They had me walk the dogs twice a day and oversee the “pack” upstairs. My job was to keep them under control and to settle down the dogs if they got too excited. As a dog owner this was right up my alley. We work with shelters that house and rehabilitate both domestic and wild animals. They may be the local variety featuring dogs and cats as well as shelters that feature exotic pets and injured wildlife. When wildlife is injured either through natural causes, road accidents, hunting or loss of a parent, shelters step in to provide rehabilitation and care. These facilities may be open to the public to allow visitors a close look at animals they might not otherwise see in the wild.

Shelters catering to domestic pets are often safe havens for lost pets, strays, and abandoned animals. They function to immunize the animals and create a space for them to be able to integrate back into society.

Animal shelter work can bring out the best of human nature. Connecting and rehabilitating abandoned animals can instill a sense of accomplishment that few tasks can provide. As well as connecting to animals, this internship provides a great insight into local communities as well. There are great opportunities to connect with school children as well as the general public in this internship to learn some of the local customs. This internship requires an intensive training period that will teach you the basics of animal care expected at the facility.

Job duties include: assisting staff with wildlife rehabilitation, food preparation, wildlife intake, interpretation, arranging exhibits, facilities & grounds maintenance, humane education, admissions, office & administrative support, pet foster care - pre-adoption pets & owned pets of families in need including military families deployed in war, pet lost & found, pet visitation - bringing pets to healthcare & senior facilities, special events & promotions, adoptions assistant, advocacy, behavior help line associate, cat trainer, and dog trainer.

Make a difference in animal lives with an up close and personal placement whose focus is on animal treatment, surgery and recovery. This clinics we work with generally work on both domestic and wild animals.

This opportunity will give you a chance to not only connect with animals but with people who have dedicated their lives to assisting them. They are a "different breed" and this is a great chance to find out if working with animals may be your calling or something you may want to volunteer with in the future.

The centers we work with are broken down into a diverse set of sections that all work seamlessly to provide optimal care for the animals. Reception, waiting room, laboratory, treatment room, kennels and grooming area.

The full breadth of the job duties will depend in part on the intern's interests. There may be the opportunity to assist with surgical operations to include anesthetics, surgical scrubbing, shaving, inserting catheters, and other technical procedures. Or, focus more on rehabilitation and integrating animals back into society or the wild.

Job duties include: prep of animals before surgery, post-surgery care, sit-in on consultations with veterinarians and the public, assist with laboratory specimens, rehabilitation of animals, preparation of documents for pre/post surgery, animal intake and release, and data entry.

A short drive to downtown Brisbane lays one of the world's premier koala sanctuaries. Here, you will have an up close and personal glance at one of the world's most endearing animals. Koalas have a range of behavior that scientists are still seeking to understand and you will have the opportunity to come to your own conclusions about their life ways.

With 130 koalas and an equal amount of kangaroos, this is run as a wildlife park that allows visitors a more personal interaction with these animals than they would get in the wild.

This is a great opportunity to interact with wild mammals in a controlled environment that takes into consideration the animal's needs and welfare. Koalas roam free on the park grounds and you have the opportunity to view them in a semi-natural habitat.

The scenic river location likewise provides a glimpse into some of the native flora and fauna found in the area. Assist in catfish feedings, and maintenance of the center's snake collection if so inclined.

Featuring crocodiles and other North Queensland wildlife this park is one of the largest of its kind. Education is an important part of the Park's mission. Crocodile numbers are in the decline owing to climate change and human degradation of habitats.

The Park educates visitors on the disposition of the crocodile and behavioral characteristics. The Park also celebrates the diversity of northern Australia biota and includes tropical bird exhibits, reptiles, indigenous insect exhibits, and tropical woodlands.

An extensive boardwalk system provides ample opportunity for visitors to explore the park and diverse habitats by foot. A nearby lagoon likewise features boat rides and an opportunity to see the park by water.
